The four members of the QHS History Bowl Team poses with their coach and their national plaque in Washington DC.

This past weekend, Quincy High School's Varsity History Bowl Team competed at the National History Bowl Competition in Washington, D.C., which included 95 varsity teams and 54 JV teams from 38 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. History Bowl is a highly competitive academic sport that involves answering difficult history questions spanning many topics, and Nationals features the most challenging questions ('A Sets') and an incredibly high level of play.

Fresh from their March 11th victory at the Massachusetts State Championships in Scituate, Seniors Yu Fan Mei (captain), Dheeraj Prakash, and Liam McCoy, and Freshman Eddie Giza were excited to bring the team back to DC for the first time since 2018. With a record of 7/10 (and noting that two of the losses were nail-biters that came down to the very last question), the team broke the previous QHS Nationals record of 5/10 and brought home another plaque, for the Varsity Afternoon Group Champion award!

Eddie Giza, the Massachusetts Junior Varsity History Bee Champion, also participated in the Junior Varsity National History Bee (which includes only Freshman and Sophomores) on Sunday.

Congratulations to the team and to Mr. Ikeda for a great showing!
